filmmaker in search of funding? check below…
June 16, 2009

so i promised an update as to why i stopped blogging about a month ago, here it is: i was going through an intense healing from a very intense interaction with a very intense individual. yea, i know, how vague can i be? the scorpio in me won’t let me disclose all details in this post, but long story short i was getting my heal on; reading, creating, reflecting, cleansing , writing, praying, allowing myself to release through bouts of yelling and tears, and talking to good friends. all of that was great, nothing is more healing for me than allowing myself to release, but there is also nothing like lockin’ in on my projects and fleshing my ideas out and getting everything on point. art is healing. art heals.
with all of that said, i have recently revisited a film project that i have been trying to get funded since 2007. i believe that i will one day be able to birth this film and have decided to go forth and shoot, with or without foundation funding, but that doesnt mean that i am going to stop looking for folks to fund my wonderful idea! so with all of that said , if there are any other filmmakers in need of some money to fund a project, ive come across the grant for you….well…us. oh yea, about the image above, i googled the term healing and this beautiful lotus was one of the photographs that came up.
About the Funding:
The Jesse Thompkins III foundation for the arts was launched in 2008 in by Jesse and Judith Thompkins in the memory of Jesse Thompkins III who was a young emerging filmmaker. The foundation provides grants to young filmmakers residing in Brooklyn. Check the link: Jesse Thompkins III

journey by tai allen of vicelounge
May 6, 2009
— part 1
astonished, i spent
days wondering who fooled her
into loving me
— part 2
time passed as time does
and what was special blurred bad
her blues, went off key
— part 3
i begged a god please
bring me back, bring her back — now
this is making tears
— part 4
we talk a lot now
with words that miss their marks — they
fall on ego not heart
— part 5
tonight i am here
penning all my thoughts and wants
but saying no words
— the end
i will kiss the love
hoping she hears what i mean
feels what i do feel

Today while getting my hair cut, my stylist showed me the New York Times from Last sunday, in it was an article about the art work of Mickalene Thomas. I got so hype and told my stylist that I had just just just posted a blog about Mickalene Thomas and the amazingness of her work. I mean her work is so beautiful , has so much texture and so so many layers. In the article Thomas mentioned Gustav Klimt as one of her inspirations. This inspired me to share a Klimt piece on the blog.
Mickalene Thomas’ first solo show is up at Lehman Maupin in Chelsea. Check the event page for the address and check this link to read the article.
Enjoy the article and if you are in NY check out the work of this amazing artist, in her first solo show!!
